ISSUE 12: May 2021 - A newly released brand video from Toshiba, ‘A Sustainable World,’ opens with a bold statement: “We are Toshiba. We have an unwavering drive to make and do things that lead to a better world, both today and for generations to come.” It’s a big claim. But does it hold water?

Toshiba recognize sustainability as an important management issue. In the latest progress report on Toshiba Next Plan, Toshiba has announced the focus on promoting on environmental management, sustainability, and compliance in respect to corporate operations, and positioned renewable energy, energy management and CO2 utilization as major business pillar to contribute to the decarbonization.
From this April, Toshiba has integrated the social contribution function and sustainability communications function into a newly established Sustainability Management Division that is directly report to CEO to accelerate company-wide initiatives on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and Environment, Social, Governance (ESG) activities.

Ltd. made a comment regarding to the 2021 Union Budget to support the government’s initiatives. “Toshiba is committed to supporting the government’s efforts through its various businesses and operations. The recent Union Budget 2021 is geared towards recovery, revival and growth for amore sustainable and inclusive economy. We particularly consider we can relate our businesses to the Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims for universal water supply in all 4,378 Urban Local Bodies, as well as liquid waste management in 500 AMRUT cities over the next five years; and the Voluntary Vehicle Scrappage policy, which will boost demand for fuel-efficient, environment friendly vehicles. Through Toshiba Water Solutions (TWS), which has its global headquarters in Haryana, Toshiba is an active partner in India’s quest to build sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure. Under the Indian government’s “Clean Ganga” initiative, TWS is involved in projects in Bihar, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, for the construction of ten sewage treatment plants (STPs). Harnessing its knowledge and expertise in developing water and wastewater infrastructure, Toshiba is continuing to work together with the government and other local partners to secure India’s water lifeline through technology.
Toshiba’s rechargeable battery – SCiB™ is ideal for hybrid vehicles for features like excellent safety, long life and rapid charging. Toshiba has established a joint venture to set up India’s first automotive lithium-ion battery factory in Gujarat, which will soon start to manufacture this advanced battery. The versatile performance of SCiB™ is demonstrated not only in cars, but also by a wide range of applications that include electric buses and ferries. Toshiba expects the SCiB™ can promote green transportation in India.
To support the urban development with lower environmental impacts, Toshiba is offering energy-efficient and environment friendly elevator products, which meet India’s requirements for environmentally conscious products and the updated voluntary environmental performance standards.
Toshiba's ELCOSMO-III and SPACEL-III series of elevators employ compact PMSM motor, drive system, energy regenerative
system and LED lightings that improve energy efficiency. Furthermore, the two series of elevators employ the roller guide for
both car and counter weight instead of the conventional sliding guide shoe, which eliminates the use of lubricant oil and
therefore contributes to the reduction of environmental pollution.
