Toshiba Group's energy & infrastructure businesses are closely aligned with India’s green growth vision and are well positioned to address country's key social challenges through Green Transformation (GX) and Digital Transformation (DX).

In energy sector, Toshiba offers complete energy solutions for "making", "storing", and "using” energy wisely. To help India increase the share of clean power, Toshiba offers reliable products and solutions for environment-friendly hydroelectric power generation, including pumped storage equipment. Majority of power is generated by thermal power plants in India. To reduce CO2 emissions from sources including power plants, Toshiba can provide high efficiency equipment and innovative solutions like Carbon Dioxide Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) solution, which helps to separate and capture CO2 from its source. To strengthen renewable energy transmission & distribution (T&D) infrastructure, Toshiba is expanding manufacturing capacity of power and distribution transformers. 40% of Toshiba’s India-made T&D equipment is already being used for renewable energy

Toshiba rechargeable lithium-ion battery “SCiBTM” can minimize environmental impact and contribute to carbon neutrality. It helps reduce fuel consumption and CO2 / NOx emissions and can be widely used for vehicle, industrial and infrastructure applications, including automobiles, buses, railroad cars, vessels and peak shaving. Additionally, Toshiba actively contributes to water pollution abatement in rivers by building sustainable water and wastewater infrastructure in India.

Toshiba is also leading digital transformation in India. In energy sector, Toshiba’s advanced IoT solutions like EtaPRO® can support predictive maintenance and performance monitoring for power plants. In software, Toshiba’s expertise in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) research is enhancing IoT and Cloud solutions to streamline manufacturing and supply chain operations, fostering a circular economy. For India’s infrastructure needs, Toshiba offers IoT systems for water and wastewater facilities and state-of-the-art vertical transportation solutions with remote maintenance capabilities. The Group also offer Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology that can help India fortify its cybersecurity against cyberattacks.

Toshiba’s India businesses have registered remarkable year-on-year business growth and expansion in India. Expanding on its Make-in-India and Export-from-India strategy, Toshiba has successfully supplied India-made transformers to over 50 countries including Europe and USA. Continuing its growth momentum in elevator segment, Toshiba has established a foothold in 18 of India's major cities and is working with over 300 renowned customers. Toshiba rechargeable lithium-ion battery “SCiBTM”, which is ideal for hybrid vehicles, is also receiving encouraging response from the industry. Supporting India’s Clean Ganga initiative, Toshiba is involved in construction of 10 sewage treatment plants (STPs) across 3 states with a combined capacity of over 181 million liters per day.

The Group’s investments in India has also seen a significant uptick. Toshiba’s T&D equipment factory has been promoting in-house production of major components and increasing the ratio of procurement in India, which is currently over 60%. To further support its Make in India initiative, Toshiba recently announced investment of over 500 crore Rupees to increase production capacity of power transmission & distribution equipment in India.

For over 60 years, Toshiba has been an integral part of India’s socio-economic fabric. Through its efforts, Toshiba is not only contributing to India's economic progress but also ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come. Toshiba remains steadfast in its partnership with India, committed to supporting the country’s sustainable growth journey.
