Pune Municipal Corporation awards an order to ENVIRO CONTROL - TOSHIBA WATER SOLUTIONS JV for Project for Pollution Abatement of River Mula-Mutha in Pune
Gurugram, May 2, 2022: Toshiba Water Solutions Private Limited (Toshiba Water), a wholly owned subsidiary of Toshiba Infrastructure Systems & Solutions Corporation (hereafter TISS) announced, ENVIRO CONTROL – TOSHIBA WATER SOLUTIONS JV is awarded contract for 11 STPs along with associated main sewers with 15 years of O&M(*1) from Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of Pune City, the second largest city in Maharashtra, India. This project is funded by an official development assistance (ODA) loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and its estimated project cost is 22.443 billion yen, of which 19.064 billion yen will be from the loan.
Rising population accompanied by exponential economic growth has led to an increase of sewage discharged in Mula Matha river in Pune. The city lacks the capacity to treat all the sewage it generates. The sewage exceeding its capacity is discharged into the Mula-Mutha river without being treated properly. Therefore, Pune is in urgent need to construct sewage treatment plants in order to treat all the sewage that is expected to continue increasing.
The purpose of the Mula-Mutha River Rejuvenation Project is to improve the condition of the Mula-Mutha river and the sanitary and living environments of the residents in Pune city and the river basin. This project includes the construction of 11 sewage treatment plants (total daily capacity: 396,000 m3) to cater to the estimated water usage for the year 2027 as well as the construction of a sewage carrier pipeline. The construction period is three years, followed by 15 years of O&M. This project is planned to be completed by 2040.
